My Car, My Job, & Derek Webb.

I drive (when it works) a red 2002 Pontiac Grand Am. I mean, don’t get me wrong- I’m thankful for the great deal on my car, but this car stresses me the crap out. I bought my car from my sister about a year and a half ago. In the time since then I have put nearly 30,ooo miles on the red beauty and may have possibly put it to it’s inevitable death. While I’d be happy to  purchase my dream car…

…for now (and until Emmaus doesn’t own me) I’ll continue to dream on keep bumming rides from friends.

In case you’re not up-to-date on my life: I work for Topeka’s top Salon. At ‘His and Her Salon & Day Spa,’

“we pride ourselves on our excellent service and top notch services.”

My job here is simply sweeping hair, smiling, and making small talk with all the millions of women (and 100ish guys) who indulge in our full service salon. I know, I’m amazing. HA! My job’s not all that bad- I get to dress up everyday and watch people cut hair. I’ve learned so much about cutting hair in just one month. That almost makes up for the virtually no money that I (don’t) make. yahoo!

Next up is a man by the name of Derek Webb. If you haven’t heard (at least of) this man, I feel SOO bad for you. Webb is the former front man of what some (me) would say is the best CCM group, ever, Caedmons Call. Derek started to branch out on his own in the early 2000’s, and by doing so has written and produced some of the most risque Christian music of all time. Webb often throws a lot of political, personal, and everyday trials into his hard hitting, yet, theologically and biblically sound  lyrics. Webb’s album ‘She Must and Shall Go Free,’ is most definitely one of the BIGGEST influences in my relationship with the Lord. Almost ever single song on this album breaks me and brings me back to the simplicity of the Gospel- our Bridegroom, our King, The One on the Cross, Jesus. I often get lost in this crazy world, and I can always be sure that although,

“I am a whore I do confess
But I put you on just like a wedding dress
and I run down the aisle
and I run down the aisle
I’m a prodigal with no way home
but I put you on just like a ring of gold
and I run down the aisle to you”

I have someone (more than) willing to take me back, with unconditional love, like no other. So if you haven’t heard him, check him out!

One more thing before I finish up here, I just wanted to take a second and Praise God for his provision in the last month especially. I came back from camp and found a job in two days, and hopefully on Thursday i’ll have gotten a second job! Most importantly a place to live. I have been living with some of the most Godly and and encouraging people I know. The Wasserstein’s are truly some of the most amazing people, with some of the biggest hearts, and cutest sons. If you ever get a chance to spend some time with them- do it!

Thanks for your time, and bare with me as I figure out this blogging thing.

Cheers,

Christian!
